A most unusual black silhouette (5 x 2.5 cm) hand painted on glass - miniature portrait of a mid-Victorian young lady during the Vanity Fair era. It is well executed with superb detailing of her hair, her elaborately decorated hat, and her lace choker collar and front ruffles. The young lady appears to be excitedly exclaiming or conversing. Very charming. It is painted in black on the reverse of the glass and contained in a miniature leather picture frame (10.5 x 7.5 cm) with gilt edging around the glass.
