French Marine - Antique Oil Painting

1940 - 1960
Description

Lovely marine painting of the coast of Brittany by the artist Pierre Vasserot (1887 - 1959). The canvas is mounted on a simple wooden chassis and is signed and dated 1952.

Vasserot spent his childhood at BINIC, in Kerannick, at the castle Vasserot built by his parents. He then went to study at the school of fine arts in Paris where he studied painting alongside Fernand HIMBERT. Initially very academic, he painted portraits and Parisian scenes. He exhibited around 1900 at the Salon des Indépendants for about ten years. He then returned to Brittany where he devoted his painting to the Breton coast from Binic to Saint Brieuc.

He also painted his family and many interiors of their villa Kerannick. He finally developed a strong impressionist style.

A family museum in Binic includes the works of Pierre VASSEROT, Emile CUEFF and Jean VASSEROT and his work is still exhibited locally.
