A J W Benson ‘The Ludgate’ silver pocket watch.

The watch has a key-winding movement which is working nicely; a winding key is included. The movement is fully signed and also includes the patent number 4658, this was for an integrated dust ring which also acted as a movement carrier. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London 1889 with a maker’s mark for J W Benson. The case has some rubbing to the engine turned detail on the back of the watch from use over the years, and a couple of small cracks by the hinge although the hinge is nice and stable.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The signed enamel dial has a faint short hairline between 11 and 12 o’clock, not too noticeable at all to the naked eye. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
