An antique silver pocket watch with history.

The watch has a key-winding movement which is working nicely; a key is included. The movement is protected by an inner fitted cover and then an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are Swiss hallmarks inside both of the case backs. The inner cover has been engraved from when the watch was awarded to George Lacey as a thank you for rescuing Lily Goode from drowning in May 1930. The watch is older than the inscription and would have been 'second hand' when it was presented to Mr Lacey... we see this quite often as brand new watches would have been rather expensive at the time.

The case is in good condition, just a little unevenness to the bezel but nothing too detrimental at all.

The glass lens is in good order.

The dial is signed W E Watts, Nottingham, The Greenwich Lever. William Edward Watts was founded W E Watts in 1858. The company specialised in the production and retailing of branded pocket watches and the provision of time keeping equipment to the sailors and coast guards. The company is still trading today under a slightly different name and an historical collection of old W E Watts pocket watches is on display within the shop, which is in Derby. There is a little marking to the dial.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
