Longcase Clock Joseph Stromier, Glasgow Circa 1865.

19th century
Description

A Scottish mahogany longcase clock. Choice flame mahogany veneers to the convex trunk door and moulded base panel. A carved hood pediment surmounted by an original brass finial. Turned hood side columns and trunk columns. The original wooden bun feet to the base. A decorative and colourful arched painted dial with date and seconds dials in good original condition. The corners depicting the 4 seasons and the arch a scene titled 'The Cottars Saturday Night', the Robert Burns poem. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

The Stromier family of clockmakers worked in Glasgow from 1855 to after 1900. Joseph is noted as working from 1855.
