Description

EDWARDS of LONDON: A fine solid mahogany Gentleman's WRITING BOX by this famous Royal boxmaker.

Constructed from well-figured solid mahogany, this good box is bound in brass and opens to reveal the original double-sided gilt-tooled leather writing surface within, together with the original pair of ink bottles. Both sides are hinged and behind one is a leather 'wallet' within which is the original maker's label. Complete with working Bramah lock and key 14ins (35.5cms) wide.

***David Edwards, (together with Thomas Edwards and Thomas Jeyes Edwards) established the business in 1813 at 21 King Street, Bloomsbury London. The company made the finest Boxes, Writing Cases and Dressing Cases to George III, George IV, William IV and Queen Victoria. Absorbed into Aspreys in 1859.
