Mahogany Longcase Clock with Britannia Painted Face C.1820.

19th century
Description

Early 19th.c. mahogany longcase clock c.1820. Fine mahogany case, the hood with a crisp swan neck pediment with brass roundels and blind fretwork carving over an arched glazed door flanked with turned and fluted columns. Slim case with beautiful flame mahogany veneers with inlaid stringing, fluted quarter columns, ogee mouldings and bracket feet. Charming enamelled face named for William Hunter of Dumfermlin (sic) and featuring a lovely hand painted decoration of Britannia stood with her shield and trident before a ship flying the red ensign of the Royal Navy. Further detail of golden pyramids and sea shells against a green ground. Eight day works striking the hours on a bell, functioning second hand and dummy date dial. Original weights and pendulum decorated with a scene of houses in a landscape. Excellent condition, the case has been cleaned and polished in our workshops. Works have been cleaned and overhauled and are sold with a 12 month guarantee.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
