High Back Carved Oak Box Settle. C.1890.

19th century
Description

Late 19th.c. carved oak hall seat or box settle c.1890. Unusually high backrest with a shaped cresting rail over ten panels crisply carved with a classical inspired foliate pattern to each. Further carving to the surrounds and to the large shaped arms which are raised on stout turned supports. Two hinged seats which lift to reveal lots of useful storage space below for boots and shoes. The carved panels are repeated on the base and sides, with moulded bracket feet. Excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
