Superb late 19th.c. Masonic lodge mirror c.1879. Original 28" x 38" mirror pate set within a beautiful carved and painted frame. Decorated with masonic motifs, flanked with a fine pair of fluted columns each topped with an orb painted with a cross and stars and, unusually, topped with the three feathers and coronet symbol of the Prince of Wales. Original painted plaque below the mirror detailing its presentation to the Hope & Charity Lodge 377 on the occasion of the opening of its Masonic Hall in December 1879, the date being given as Anno Lucis 5879 (the Masonic calender being 4000 years ahead of the Gregorian calender).
