Description

An Exhibition Quality thuya, purple heart and palm wood Victorian Period inlaid antique pier cabinet. Having a rectangular top with projecting corners made in thuya with palm wood banding and a purple heart border. The frieze again having fine inlaid detail above the rectangular glazed door, opening to reveal plate glass shelves, a mirrored back and a silk lined base. The door flanked by canted corners with superb inlaid corbels again in a variety of exotic woods. Having glazed ends, the whole supported on a thuya, purple heart and sycamore inlaid plinth and turned ebony bun feet. Stamped S14151 to the back of the cabinet indicating this was probably made by Gillows Of Lancaster. A fine example of English craftsmanship of this period. English circa 1870-1880
