Japanese Meiji Period Boxwood & Ivory Shoki Okimono

Description

A superb Japanese Meiji period okimono of Shoki the demon queller from Japanese mythology, exceptionally carved from boxwood he is shown here holding a kutana in each hand standing over a captured oni with ivory horns who carries a bag on his back containing more oni attempting to get out!

Shoki’s kimono is engraved with decoration and finished with an inlaid piece of agate.

Condition: Small loss on the back of Shoki’s hair and restoration to the right foot. Reflected in price.
