Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
Having said all that, this bookcase isn't really that high. The top glazed doors are astral-glazed & the shelves inside can all be adjusted by sliding them into any of the grooves. The bottom cupboards all have beautiful satinwood floral inlays on raised fielded panels & there are single shelves in each cupboard. It also sits on bracket feet. There are many other satinwood inlays on the top, around the doors & even on the sides. I would date this bookcase to around the 1890-1910 period & it's not a made up piece, just totally original. I don't think it will hang around for long either. This piece is in good original condition & structurally sound, with locks & keys. We have just given it a revive & polish, so there will be a bit of old wear to the polish here & there, but nothing untoward. I think it all looks great & I wouldn't want to spoil the character by stripping & re-polishing.
