English Twin Fusee Bracket Clock, Carter, London

Description

A mahogany English twin fusee bracket mantel clock. A chamfered top with a pineapple finial. A cast brass bezel with convex glass to the 8" painted dial. 'Moon' blued steel hands and strike/silent lever above XII. Side glass apertures and bun feet. A twin fusee mechanism striking the hours on a bell and signed to the backplate 'Carter 61, Cornhill, London'.

Height 18 1/2 " / 47 cms Width 11"/ 28 cms Depth 6 " / 16 cms.

John Carter of 61, Cornhill, London was a noted maker who made chronometers. He was 3 times the Master of Clockmakers Company and later Lord Mayor of London (1859-1860). This example is circa 1840.
