French Carved Alabaster Sculpture of a Female by G.v.vaerenbergh

Description

Beautiful French carved alabaster sculpture of a female, signed in the alabaster by the Belique artist Gustave Van Vaerenbergh. This sculpture is in very good condition with fine carving. This sculpture is set on a shaped Fior di pesco Apuano marble base.

GUSTAVE VAN VAERENBERGH ( 1873- 1927 )

He was born in Ghent on January 6th 1873 and died in Schaarbeck on the 16th February 1927. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent from 1888-1890. He was a sculptor who specialised in the art of sculpting female busts. Working in various materials primarily in marble, alabaster, bronze and terracotta. His workshop in Ghent came under the name ( Carli and Fre'res). He was highly regarded by his fellow artists for his skill and his attention to detail, creating many wonderful sculptures.
