Rare Silver Plated Novelty Kettle on Stand - Curling Stone by Fenton Brothers

Description

I have had a couple of other pieces of this highly collectible series created by the well renowned silversmith's, Fenton Brothers of Sheffield c.1880. This however, is the first time I have come across this spirit kettle on stand.

The stand is supported by crossed curling brushes and the kettle sits on the top and could pivot forward to pour while still on the stand. There is a burner below which would have been filled with fuel to light a wick, keeping the water hot and ready to top-up the teapot.

The lid is a bayonet fitting, requiring a twist and lift action. The underside of the kettle is marked (rubbed) for Fenton Brothers.

A rare and exciting find in excellent condition measuring 9 3/4" x 9 1/4" max x 9 1/2" tall. Victorian in era, dating to c.1880.
