Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
Maybe they were made like that or one of them was damaged a long time ago & they just evened it off. If it bothers you, I could have some carving added to match up or remove the other one to match. Both look good though & personally, I would leave as is. They have been completely re-upholstered in a fairly neutral fabric & all the cushions have been generously re-filled with new feather innards. These chairs also have an interesting gadrooned
carving all around the back edge & the back cushions have been shaped to show this off.
