Atropos Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The chest has it's original pigeon hole cupboard to the top and detachable cornice. (the cupboard can be removed for easy transport as can the cornice).
This would serve for books or other objects.

A slide facilitates close inspection of plans or charts or, indeed, any collectable housed in the cabinet which will 'cross over' admirably and serve any number of collecting pursuits.
Constructed of rich and finely figured mahogany inlaid with a satin wood string on well proportioned splayed bracket feet.

This type of furniture has always been rare and sought after. This particular example is the best I have ever seen and I cannot commend it highly enough.
