Late C18th George III period mahogany 'butler's cabinet' or serving buffet.

A good quality fitted side cabinet of rare form . Purchased from a local 'time capsule' period property where it had stood in the "Butler's Pantry" , a small annex room between the main dining room and the kitchen . Traditionally used by a butler as a serving/preparation area prior to serving wine etc in the dining room .

The cabinet having a most unusual drawer format , 2 short 'cock-beaded' drawers both above and below the panelled cupboard doors .

The interior fitted with 2 removable and adjustable sliding cutlery or silver trays , with 'ladder-racking' sides. Each slide fitted with a recessed brass ring handle .

The 2 sets of drawers each fitted with original turned knob handles .

The upper section with a shelf and three-quarter galleried back , formed from the solid mahogany sides. The whole raised on 4 original elegant turned feet . The door fitted with original working lock and key , the key-hole fitted with a shield-shaped bone escutcheon.

A rare and highly practical piece of dining room or reception room furniture with good storage and functionality.

Excellent original condition , rich colour and patination . The top with minor marks commensurate with age , wear and purpose .
