Omega 1953 'Fat Arrow' R.a.f Chronometer

1940 - 1960
Description

A 1953 Omega 'Fat Arrow' R.A.F issue chronometer wristwatch. An extremely rare military wristwatch in great condition. There were 5900 of these watches issued to R.A.F pilots and officers in a span of one year only, 1953. The dial was originally made with a substance called Radium which turned out to be radioactive when stored in large quantities. The Ministry Of Defence subsequently recalled these watches to change the substance on the dials to Tritium, hence the circled 'T' underneath the Omega logo on the dial. These rare watches are easily identified by the 'Fat Arrow' on the dial as opposed to the 'Thin Arrow' on the majority of military watches. The watch is complete with the anti-magnetic inner case cover that made sure the timekeeping was unaffected by the various magnetic items a pilot would come into contact with. Case back is marked with a broad arrow, NATO codes and batch/order numbers.

Case width 37mm.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
