French Striking and Repeating Carriage Clock

Description

A fine quality Gilt Repeating Carriage Clock c.1890

Date: 1890

Height: 18.5cm Width: 10cm Depth: 8.5cm

 

A fine quality unusual Doucine style case with the original gilt finish. The well crafted case with shaped moulding and decorated edged, with bevel-edged glasses throughout. Fluted pillars to the four corners topped with Corinthian capitals and the handle to match. A fine and original clock in fully restored condition.

The fully serviced French eight day movement of typical high quality, striking the hours and the passing of the half hour on a blued steel coiled gong, with the facility to depress the button on the case top to repeat the last hour. The original silvered club-tooth lever platform escapement with blued steel hairspring and temperature compensated balance with brass timing screws. Blued steel spade design hands.

The circular silvered dial with Arabic hour numerals surrounded by a gilt mask.
