Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian ladies bureau is a compact writing desk featuring a slanted hinged fall-front top that opens to reveal an interior writing surface and small compartments, positioned above a chest of drawers. Crafted during the early 20th century, these pieces utilised figure-rich woods such as satinwood and drew design inspiration from 18th-century classical revival styles.

Edwardian furniture prominently featured satinwood veneers with distinct grain figuring laid over solid oak or mahogany carcasses. Secondary craftsmanship details included ebony or boxwood line inlay, dovetail joinery in the drawers, and cast brass swan-neck or drop handles.

Authentic late Victorian and Edwardian bureaux display hand-cut or early machine dovetails, period-correct brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and original lock mechanisms often stamped by makers or locksmiths. Inspecting drawer linings for wear, wood shrinkage, and maker tags or stencil marks helps verify age.

A compact satinwood bureau serves as a writing workstation in a bedroom alcove, hallway, or drawing room. Pair its golden tones with neutral wall colours, contemporary table lighting, and ceramic accessories to allow the wood grain to remain the main focus.

Maintain satinwood furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight, radiators, and extreme humidity changes to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Clean surfaces gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the timber.
