This good-sized VICTORIAN BRASS COAL HELMET or SCUTTLE, with pressed pineapple and rose decoration, dates from circa 1880.

It has the original turned wooden handles set in spiral supports terminating with leopard masks.

The SCUTTLE bears the Maker's Mark for WILLIAM SOUTER & SONS of BIRMINGHAM.
