Rare Urn-shaped and Carved Tea Caddy

Description

An interesting and rare late 18th/early 19th century urn-shaped TEA CADDY in good original condition.

From the same origin as the famous 'family' of fruit caddies (apple; pear; gourd and melon) and produced in the Alpine region of Southern Germany, this caddy features a humorous lithograph to the lid; Bavarian scene to the body and carved petals around the base with ebonised rims to lid and base.

The hinge; lock and escutcheon are all of steel and the interior retains virtually all of its lead lining. Complete with key.
