Malcolm Eglin Antiques has dated this piece to the 1700s.
It has a coat of arms which appear to be 3 Greyhounds.

The compass rose has a lubber mark at the "N" point.
The dial includes an extra scale giving the times of sunrise and sunset throughout the year.
It is rubbed and the engraving is difficult to read in parts, as you can see from the photographs there is damage to one of the corners where it has been taken from the stone stand.
