Description

Stunning late 18th.c. French oak armoire or wardrobe c.1790. Shaped cornice and a superb carved frieze with heart shaped foliage and flower heads (suggesting it may have been made as a wedding or dowry gift). Doors with shaped panels, a repeat of the heart shaped carvings to each plus a carved centre frieze (part of the larger left hand door). With elaborately shaped brass plates with chased detail and massive original iron hinges. Carved and shaped apron and front legs. Very solidly constructed from heavy timbers mellowed to a lovely honey colour. Panelled sides and rear. The interior is fitted with a single shelf and a hanging rail. Excellent condition, key supplied. Please note though the doors are removable, the body of the armoire does not come apart.
