Brian MacDonald Antique Rugs & Carpets has dated this piece to the Select period.
However, an old photograph has recently emerged from the Russian museums showing a possible Sariq Turkmen yurt with the engsi hanging on the outside!
This kapanuk was made by Ersari tribes during the last quarter of the 19th century and is in mint condition with dood, glossy natural-dye wool and original braided tassels.
It is illustrated in my 3rd edition 'Tribal Rugs - Treasures of the Black Tent' page 60. A superb buy!
Size: 1.27m (4' 2") wide x 1.52m (5' 0") from top to base of tassels.
The top panel is 33cm (13") deep.
