Solid Silver Victorian Triple Stamp Box - Comyns

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

An excellent example of a 3-division solid sterling silver stamp box, by the highly collectable silversmith William Comyns.

Clearly hallmarked on the sides and lid for London 1899, this is ornate Victoriana at it''s best and is very pretty. The box has a fluted design with crimped edging to both the lid and base. The edging is slightly creased on two corners of the base (please see the photographs) where it has presumably been dropped. The base details the retailer ''Thornhill'' at New Bond Street. There is an engraved cartouche on lid, with the word ''Fossil''. The gilding inside is in excellent condition.
