This is a Victorian antique davenport dating to c.1870.

Half bun feet with ceramic castors beneath and 'honey pot' rear legs support the cabinet. Twin turned column supports fronting a four drawer arrangement in the rear section raise the writing desk which is finished with a brass gallery in balustrade form.

The dovetailed drawers are dressed with brass drop handles and are accessed from the right hand side of the cabinet whilst 'dummy' fronts to the left balance the piece nicely. Three of the drawers lock with the original key.

The fall unlocks, lifts and holds on a brass hinged support offering storage within the desk and access to a brass pin which when pulled out unlocks the rear stationery cabinet above. The rack in good order with ten compartments and a removable pen tray.

A super example and a useful piece, solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
