As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality and humorous Meiji Period copper Tsuba depicting Shojo teasing a Toad , Shojo was supposedly the God of Drunkenness , here he is carved in fantastic quality Katabori carving (high relief) with inlaid Gold eyes and tongue, he carries his Gourd of wine on a stick and can be seen teasing a Toad who himself has an inset Gold eye ,to the rear the Tsuba is carved with a pine tree in low relief, the Tsuba comes complete with an NBTHK certificate dated 1975, this authenticity certificate suggests the item is made in the Takabori Zojan manner, artist signed by by Doya Masachika with Kao and depicts Shojo .
 
The Tsuba is complete with Tomobako and is in lovely original used condition .
