Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The drop-in seat has been newly reupholstered in a good quality faux suede in mushroom. A lovely rich colour with a warm patina to the mahogany. This chair is solid and sturdy and would make a great desk chair – however it does have lots of old mends to the seat rail and to the back (see photos).

Solid and sturdy with quite a few old mends to the seat rails, legs and back (see photo). Newly reupholstered. Cross stretchers and some seat rails appear to be replacements.
