Description

JOHN JORDAN, BRISTOL Circa. 1750

A fine quality Bristol Georgian longcase clock. A walnut case with a caddy hood pediment. Fretwork panels and brass capped hood columns. A long trunk door with arched top. An arched brass and silvered dial with lunar moon phases to the arch. Date and seconds indicators with strike/silent lever at 3 o'clock position. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

John Jordan of Bristol is well documented in AJ Moores' 'The Clockmakers of Bristol' book who worked from 1716-1764. A similar clock is in the Georgian House Museum, Bristol.
