Elmgarden has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
An interesting and very attractive piece, this is a good solid piece made from a large piece of Beautifully figured cherrywood, it has a screw turned wooden winding mechanism and a central tongue and socket with a hinged base, this seems to put more stretch on the upper parts of the hat

The stretcher and mechanism are in excellent working order and it is a very good looking piece
The hat Stretcher is 12” high and 7” in diameter at the base
