In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The writing surface pulls out and lifts up to adjust at different angles. It stands on square tapering legs terminating with small brass castors. The whole piece is beautifully inlaid with a central shell motif on the inner compartments and contrasting edging and beading around every drawers and outer surface and down the legs.
The whole piece is superb quality and the attention to detail is stunning. It is an elegant statement piece that displays beautifully and is ready for use. The interior is clean and tidy and all the drawers run well. There are keys that lock both the inner compartment and the roll top. It has the original castors which have been cleaned and oiled and run well. There has been some old repair work to some parts of inlay but it has been well done and is to be expected with a piece of this age. The roll top runs smoothly and firmly and is in good condition. It is just worth noting that at some point the two small knobs on the roll top that are used to open and close it have been changed.
