Description

A top quality George IV. mahogany campaign writing slope with 2 secret compartments. The whole with protective brass corner straps, the top with a brass non engraved cartouche set within an ebony frame, the sides with sunken brass carrying handles. The box opens to reveal a green leather writing surface with gold and blind tooling. There are 3 ebony lids with white metal pulls and 2 receptacles for ink bottles. The top fall opens with lock and key to a false sprung floor which is secured by a secret spring, when released the floor lifts out to a storage area which hides another secret compartment housing 4 ebony faced drawers with small turned ivory pulls. The lower fall opens via inlaid brass catches to a stationary storage compartment. This unusual military campaign box is in excellent condition with working locks and keys.
