An Antique Silver Pocket Watch, 1919

An antique silver pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case backs for London (import mark), 1919, with a sponsor’s (or importer’s) mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The front of this particular case is in good condition while the hinged back has some unevenness.

The acrylic lens has a small patch of scuffing towards the edge, less than half a centimetre so not too detrimental.

The off-white enamel dial is a charming feature of this watch with hand painted gold minute markers around the edge which is quite unusual on a full sized pocket watch.
