It is signed on the base with William Moorcroft's full signature.
It is a stunning piece, demonstrating the handpainted tubelined designs that made William Moorcroft famous. The design is set on a deep royal blue background showing a repeating pattern of central flowers with stylised leaves surrounding it in a symmetrical art nouveau design.
The jar stands approximately 5 1/2" (14cm) tall. The diameter across the top is 3 1/2" (9cm) and approximately 5" (13cm) at its widest point.
It is a very rare piece and it displays beautifully. There is no damage to the main body of the vase however there are some small areas of damage around the lid and inner rim, all of which I have closely photographed. Underneath the lid there are some small nibbles and also on the inner rim, on which the lid sits. On top of the lid there is a small surface chip which has taken some paint off which has been re-glued on with just a little bit of white showing and another lesser knock. There is also some light crazing on the surface of the lid. Of course the price reflects this slight damage but do not think this detracts from its presence and display.
It really is a truly stunning piece and a very rare original piece from William Moorcroft. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions at all please ask.
