Culvertons has dated this piece to the 18th Century.

The quality and stylised nature of the carving, the surface patina and its close association with this period in American history enables us to date this item to the latter part of the eighteenth century - within a few years of his speech.

Apart from an early, sympathetic, repair to the wrist of the hand holding the speech, as can be seen in one of the accompanying images, the figure is in very good condition still retaining a lovely colour and patina.
