Stunning Georgian Oak & Mahogany Bureau Bookcase C1780

Description

This is a stunning antique george 111 oak and mahogany bureau bookcase dating from around 1780. It has a cornice top with dental moulding above a deep carved frieze. There are two fielded arched panelled doors with later brass knob handles and key escutcheon and internally there are two original adjustable shelves. The fall front with original brass escutcheon and inlaid star motife of rosewood and mahogany opens to reveal a stunning interior with small central door with fruitwood inlaid shell and with original key and with pierced fretwork above. There is a half turned column to either side of the door which are secret drawers. To either side there are four small drawers and two pigeon holes above. Further to this and to either side again are four stepped small drawers and behind the second drawer is a secret drawer which has its own secret drawer to the back (please ask for photographs).

There are four long graduated drawers to the base all of which are oak lined with mahogany banding and with later brass handles. It stands on ogee bracket feet.

The top lifts off the base for ease of transporting.

A stunning georgian bureau bookcase in very good condition.

Measures: 82" high X 44" high to top of bureau X 30" knee high to desk X 23" deep X 39" wide.
