William IV Silver Etui by Joseph Willmore, Birmingham 1834

Description

This delightful solid silver étui or needle case is fully hallmarked for Joseph Willmore and dated Birmingham 1834. Of conventional tapered form, the engine turned front with a rectangular reserve engraved with the owner's name.

The back with conforming decorations.

The interior would have been fitted with various implements, such as miniature scissors, pencils, needles.

Fully functioning push button mechanism at the front.

Base fully hallmarked, which is not common, these are often unmarked or partially marked.

Hallmarks:

JW for Joseph Willmore.

Date letter "L" for 1834.

Birmingham Assay mark.

Lion Passant.

Duty mark.

Dimensions:

Height: 5.5cm / 2.2 inches.

Width at widest: 2.5cm / 1 inch.

Condition:

Very good for its age.

Minor dings at places, barely noticeable and mentioned for accuracy.

Push button mechanism still opens and closes satisfactorily.
