Japy Frères Sèvres Porcelain and Ormolu Boudoir Clock

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A sumptuous boudoir clock, fine original gilding on bronze and lovely Rose Pompadour Sèvres style porcelain. Porcelain is beautifully painted with floral swags, a cherub to the dial and a finely painted panel with a scene of a couple in a country setting. The case is classical in style with acanthus columns, pineapple finials and a lion's mask with acanthus swags to the front. The ormolu has its original contrasting polished and matted areas and looks stunning.

The dial is porcelain with finely fretted brass hands. Please note that these clocks didn't originally come with a bezel or a rear door. Porcelain is signed to the rear on most of the pieces (there is a picture of the back of the dial below).

The French movement is by Japy Freres and is of the company's usual high quality. On the back plate is the Japy Freres mark along with that of the Paris retailer HP & Co. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with just some minor wear on the high spots. The dial is also in good condition, The small half hour markers are missing and there is some chipping around the winding holes. The over-glaze gilt decoration is very good. The rest of the porcelain is also very good, as with the dial most of the wear-prone over-glaze gilt decoration is present and in good condition.

Japy Freres clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate along with the retailer's mark for HP & Co.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
