In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The tin is painted metal with gold detail. The wig belonged to a 'H. Barrs Davies Esqre.' and this is printed across the lid of the tin. Inside the lid the maker's name is printed"Ravenscroft Law. Wig & Robe Maker. Lincolns Inn. London". The tin is approximately 10" wide by 7" deep and 3 1/2" high.
The overall condition is excellent and both the wig and the tin display beautifully. The hair on the wig is full and generally tidy and there are many curls.
The wig is well over 100 years old and has been well used over the years so please expect there to be some signs of wear. The tin has some areas of wear on the gold paint and some small patches of rust but overall it is clean and tidy and the hinge is strong.
