Description

A beautiful Arts & Crafts Elbow Chair by William Birch of High Wycombe. This high quality and shapely chair made in solid Oak with a rush seat. Having a large back rail with mushroom finials, with shaped arms and raised on tapering front legs adjoined by ring turned stretcher rails. In superb original condition, no losses of repairs. Strong jointed and firm standing. A superb example, circa 1890.

William Birch traded in the 19th century and specialised in Arts & Crafts chairs, based in High Wycombe they produced exceptionally highly crafted furniture for the wealthy. His stylish designs were recognised by Liberty and Co in the late 19th century and they were a major retailer for his pieces.
