Mansion House Antiques & Fine Art has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
As we do not know the birth date or Christian name of the artist we cannot search census or birth records so are unable to offer any biographical information about him or her, but according to a painting in similar style listed by artnet.com as C. Austin, and dated 1876, it is fair to say that it is 19th Century.
The painting is an accomplished oil of a loch surrounded by mountains.
In the foreground a woman is sitting on a bank by the side of the path, basket at her side, in conversation with a man wearing a tam o'shanter, with a satchel over his shoulder, who is leaning on his stick. There is a little dog next to them.

FRAME (Gilt Swept Decorative Frame)
The painting is newly framed in an ornate 3 1/2" gilt frame and slip and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
