1930s Silver Minerva Half Hunter Pocket Watch

A 1930s silver Minerva half hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a good quality Swiss stem-winding movement, 17 jewels, four adjustments, which is working well. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for London 1938 together with a maker’s mark for the London based retailer J W Benson.

Benson had their own watch making department but also sourced good quality Swiss watches from a number of companies.

The case has a small indentation to the front, next to the hinge, and some unevenness to the back but not too detrimental. The Roman numerals surrounding the small lens to the front are picked out in dark blue.

The winding stem pushes in to easily open the front cover. Inside there is an acrylic lens and an enamel dial, both in lovely condition. Note the special hands designed for half hunter watches so that the time can be read even when the front cover is closed… if they were standard pocket watch hands, it would be difficult to decipher between hour and minute hands.
