Pair of Late C19th French Rosewood 'Petite Commodes' or 'Tables En Chiffoniere' with "Chinoiserie" Marquetry Inlay.

19th century
Description

Pair of late C19th French rosewood 'petite commodes' or 'tables en chiffoniere' with "Chinoiserie" marquetry inlay .

Elegant pair of Louis XV style marquetry inlaid tables , each fitted with 3 oak-lined drawers with gilded rococo-style escutcheons , fitted with sabots to the feet and brass-mounted edges both to the tops and the platform below.

Each raised on cabriole supports with cross-banded edges , and of serpentine outline . The tops , lower tiers , sides and drawer fronts all inlaid with fantastical 'Chinese' scenes of landscapes with pagodas , figures, bridges, boats and exotic birds. The marquetry-work comprising of various fruit-woods , satinwood and exotic wood inlays .

Of free-standing form , with polished backs .

Minor differences to design of marquetry and mixes of timber within the designs indicating the individually hand-made nature of the tables.

Minor colour differences to patina of metalware through exposure to sunlight. One table has a dark mark beneath the original polished surface to the reverse side (shown).

In overall excellent condition .

Cleaned and waxed , ready to use . Minor marks commensurate with age and use.

Could be used equally well as bedside or lamp tables , or in a reception / drawing-room scheme .

Highly decorative and smart pair of practical tables conceived in the C18th taste.

Each table with an original elaborately-cast key to operate the locks fitted on each drawer.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
