Pair Georgian Fruitwood Windsor Elbow Chairs. Circa 1800

Description

Fine matching pair Georgian fruitwood windsor elbow chairs with elm seats. Hoop backs with very rare 'tulip' pierced splat back and with shaped arms with scroll ends. Standing on well turned legs united with plain turned stretchers. All in fine condition with a couple of minor repairs. A little old and very dead (treated) worm as would be expected in fruitwood of this age. Wonderful rich colour with superb waxed patina. Good solid and generous chairs. The 'tulip' splat comes from Buckinghamshire area and is very rare - see last image from Cottons book 'English Regional Chairs'.

Size; 34" high, 18" high to seat, 22" across arms.
