The portrait is large and imposing the painting itself being 126cm high x 100cm (49.5 x 39.5 inches approx)
whilst overall including frame it stands at 143cm high x 119.5 cm (56.5 inches x 47 inches approx.)Some photo''s taken with flash
In overall very good condition and ready to hang, there has been some restoration to the piece including
some infilling which in some lights appears a little raised mainly background also some overpainting.
Also has been relined and varnished.Frame minor self coloured losses

An influential eighteenth-century English painter, specialising in portraits.
He promoted the ''Grand Style'' in painting which depended on idealization of the imperfect.
He was a founder and first president of the Royal Academy of Arts, and was knighted by George III in 1769.
