Description

Superb large hand painted Lille porcelain wall plaque, c.1890, with ornate shaped rim. Finely detailed scene of a village on market day will the locals milling about, having a chat and buying freshly butchered meat. The outer part has architectural structures decorated with feathery purple scrolls and arabesques, scattered items, guns and shooting gear and a drum and pipes and stylised dolphin fountains. A pale yellow ground border with flowers and foliage decorates the rim with gilded touches. Marked to the back with the Lille 1767 mark in black. I have a second similar plaque I am selling separately but happy to pair them up if you would wish.

It measures 14 3/4" by 12 1/4" wide and 3/8" deep. Condition is excellent with no damage and very light surface wear. The whole surface is lightly crazed as is common with these faience style wares.
