A large and well made French clock set with modelling of high quality in gilded brass; beautifully sharp edges and crisp detail. It is in lovely condition, clean and bright gilding with very little wear.

The style is French Louis XVI, it is formed as a romantic ruin with flowing foliage around pieced windows, and urns. Candelabra have matching bases with urns above which are mounted the 5 light candelabra, styled as foliage. The set is complete with its pair of snuffers which sit in the central sconces as finials.

This is a large heavy and impressive clock set in lovely clean and bright condition.

Dial is enamel on copper with a brass centre and is complete with the original blued steel hands. The Belgium retailer's mark is on the dial. Hobnail bezel is glazed with convex, bevelled glass. The back door of the clock is glazed with bevelled glass allowing the movement to be seen. Candelabra are modelled all around and the back of the clock is decorated; the set looks great viewed from all sides and could be displayed on a table in the centre a room.

The French movement is by A. D. Mougin and is of the clockmakers usual excellent quality. It runs for 8 days, striking the hours and halves on a bell. We have replaced the missing pendulum with one faithful to the original design. Our clockmaker has fully overhauled the movement, fitted two fresh springs and test run it until satisfied of trouble free running; it is in excellent clean and running condition. Condition of the case is very good with a bright and clean finish, there is some minor wear and some tarnish in places; the sets displays very well as you can see in the pictures below. The dial is in excellent condition with no major chips or scratches, just some very light chips around the winding holes. The candelabra arms are very slightly distorted.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
