Early Ormolu Boudoir Clock by Leroy a Paris.

Description

Early Ormolu Boudoir Clock

by Leroy A Paris.

~ French - Circa 1850 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully working ~~

A superb and early ormolu (fine gilded bronze/brass) boudoir clock by the well known maker Leroy, Paris. It features two delightful cherubim seated each side of the clock, holding a laurel wreath which is hung around an urn. The dial is enamel on copper and is signed with the makers name and has the original finely fretted gilt brass hands. Movement is visible through the glazed back door.

The case is beautifully made in bronze/brass, hand chased and then gilded, the gilding is in very good condition.

The Antique French movement is the early and small type of Pendule de Paris with outside hammer return spring. It features the superior pin-pallet escapement and has the makers signature on the backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled and tested by our clockmaker. We have replaced the missing pendulum. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell. See the video clip below to see the clock running and striking.

Basile Charles Le Roy was the Master Clockmaker to Napoleon & along with his son Charles-Louis were clockmaker’s to the Princess Pauline and the Duke de Bourbon. Examples of their work are in all the major collections as well in the Ministere de la Guerre, Paris. The Maison de Le Roy was founded in 1785 at Palais Royal & continued until the death of Charles at Versailles in 1865.

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some wear to the original gilding on the high spots. The dial has a very very faint hairline near the 7 o'clock but over wise is in excellent condition.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
